same momentum please

say the baseball weighs 0.300 kg and the bowling ball weighs 4.00 kg
and the velocity of the baseball is 20.0 ms^1

baseball momentum=mv=0.3x20=6kgms^-1

bowling ball momentum=6=mv=4v
                       v=1.5 ms^1  not very fast

now let's do that with KE

KE baseball=0.5mv^2=0.5x0.3x20^2=60 Joules

KE bowlingball=0.5x4xm^2=60 Joules
                      v=5.477 ms^1 (this is almost 20 kmh^-1)

Let the mass of baseball be m and it's speed be v.
Let those of the bowling ball be M and V.

Same momentum: mv = MV => bowling ball speed is much less than baseball since it's much heavier.
and KE of bowling ball=0.5MV^2 = 0.5mvV is smaller compared to KE of baseball 0.5mv^2.

Same KE: 0.5mv^2=0.5MV^2 => bowling ball speed of much less than baseball speed.
BUT momentum of bowling ball=MV=sqrt(Mn)v is much larger compared to mometum of baseball mv.

Hence choose same momentum since it'll have less KE.

it is six of one and twice 3 of the other (as my physci professor said).

momentum is MV, KE is MV^2

After a short layoff, and a rotator cuff tear, I went through the same reduction in equipment weight from 16 to 14 lb. I also had a hook that travelled over 15-20 boards and although I'm delivering it straighter now, I have no loss of pin action and do not leave solid corner pins as often with 14 lbs.

All I do is make sure my hand is beneath the ball and driving through when releasing it. That reduces spin and makes for a consistent roll when approaching the 1-3 pocket. Only thing is that you practice in order to strengthen your wrist or you can wear a bowling glove under a wrister glove to provide additional support. I'm nearly back to the performance and average I had when bowling professionally back in the day.

Since I started bowling, I utilized Brunswick/Quantum/Revolution/Elite products (all are manufactured by Brunswick) so that I got familiar with reactions of their equipment. I'm still using that product because my game may get thrown off trying to learn how other manufacturers' equipment performs. Try using the same equipment you used back then, and ask your pro shop if there are bowling balls similar to what you threw before you stopped.

Good luck!

Well 14 is the lowest I would ever go but to be honest you have to be comfortable. It has been said that a perfect bowling ball weight is 10% of your body weight. However I find this is better for females as I should be using a 24 pound ball under this theory. If I were you I'd use the heaviest ball I could without any pain. You need the ball to carry thru the pins but not at the cost of hurting yourself.

What u want is a ball that will hook but drives into the pocket, i suggest going with a 14 lb. bowling ball because a 15 1b. will hurt ur wrist a little while a 14 lb. is alright

14 lbs is as low as you should go if you still want to carry light hits (5-pin swishers). You might consider getting one of the many wrist supports on the market if your wrist still bothers you after getting a lighter weight ball.
